The Bank's Internal Communications Function is a small, flexible team of talented contributors who are committed to delivering effective communication support for colleagues around the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Internal Communications (IC) develops and manages key resources and tools to support the education, awareness, engagement, and productivity of Bank employees. It is responsible for a growing range of communication mechanisms and information delivery tools, including key content and functionality of the Bank's intranet, videos, a daily news email known as The Daily Fed, digital signage positioned in high-traffic locations in all Bank offices, and core online applications used by all employees. The IC team also develops and manages executive communications.
 
Responsibilities:
 
Content Writer and Editor 

  • The primary responsibility of the Associate is to create, write and edit content for the Bank's communication channels, from conception to publication. This includes writing original articles; soliciting and editing contributions from business areas around the Bank; coding intranet features in Dreamweaver; and procuring and preparing (in Photoshop) high quality, compelling images to accompany feature stories;
  • Contribute to the preparation and distribution of the Bank's morning news email for all employees;
  • Create executive communications as needed, including articles, emails, invitations, and business updates;
  • Develop visually appealing and compelling content for the Bank's digital screens;
  • Design, script, create and edit short videos on various aspects of the Bank’s mission, business, and other topics.

Content Ownership

  • Work closely with the team’s leadership and collaborate with other writers/contributors, taking a strategic view of content production across all internal channels;
  • Play an active role in managing the content calendar and overall publication schedule;
  • Take initiative to develop story/series ideas for all channels, balance business versus engagement content, and understand the big picture of how features relate to each other;
  • Build relationships and a network across the Bank to provide information/content about developments in their business areas;
  • Help oversee the intranet homepage and other internal channels; ensure accuracy and timeliness of content; and update specific content daily.

Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate has approximately 5-7 years of  directly related communications experience, ideally in a financial services environment, plus:
  • Demonstrated experience supporting an organization’s internal communication needs, creating high-quality content, identifying communications priorities, and aligning communications with an organization’s strategic objectives;
  • Demonstrated experience working with executives and other senior leaders on their communications;
  • Superior writing, editing and verbal communication skills, including a background writing for varied audiences;
  • Creative PowerPoint skills and the ability to use  HTML, Photoshop, Premier Pro, and Dreamweaver;
  • The ability to write/edit concise pieces that meet specific word count requirements, as well as the ability to write in a variety of styles, from light, engaging, and humorous to more formal and business-focused;
  • Experience developing communications content for use in multiple channels – including video, intranet, presentations, and other audio-visual and technology-driven channels – is highly desirable;   
  • Proven ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment. As a small group with interchangeable skills and changing demands, the IC team often crosses the boundaries of their defined roles to support each other, whether in editing, writing, photography and video use, and idea and theme development. Every member of the team must be comfortable with the flexibility required;
  • Knowledge of the role and function of the Federal Reserve in the context of the financial services sector as well as the U.S. and global economies desirable.
