Position Summary

Primary duties are to teach undergraduate courses in the Digital Media Production curriculum, with an emphasis on digital storytelling, multimedia production, design theory, writing for media and visual literacy. The candidate may be asked to teach additional courses as needed by the department, including Civil Discourse: Theory and Practice, and may have the opportunity to teach in his or her area of specialization.

Teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester (4 courses). Faculty members are required by contract to engage in continuing scholarly development and academic advising, and to perform department and university service. Days and times are variable.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate degree required, preferably in communication, digital media, media arts, or media-related discipline. A.B.D. considered. All degree requirements for doctorate must be completed by August 2019.

Candidates must have at least one year of demonstrable professional experience in writing for media, digital storytelling and multimedia production (audio, video, and mobile storytelling, interactive multimedia, and digital imaging).

Candidate must provide a portfolio of creative or professional work demonstrating knowledge in digital storytelling and multimedia production at time of application. The portfolio may be uploaded or linked using the “Portfolio” tab under required documents.

Successful performance of an on-campus interview, including teaching demonstration and portfolio, is required. During the interview and teaching demonstration, the candidate must exhibit knowledge of current trends in digital storytelling, multimedia production, design theory, and visual communication.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the education of diverse populations.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant college teaching experience in traditional face-to-face and/or online course delivery is strongly preferred.

A strong record of faculty collaboration

Demonstrable expertise in writing for media, digital storytelling, multimedia production, and web design/development for public relations, integrated marketing, advertising and journalism.

Demonstrable expertise in Adobe Creative Suite is preferred.

Relevant teaching experience in Public Speaking and/or Civil Discourse

Active research agenda.

A high level of interest in curricular or program development, internship coordination, and advising professionally-related student organizations.
